Many companies pay
very little attention to warranty
management, thus missing opportunities for
higher levels of customer satisfaction.
Today warranties are qualified with words
such as "limited", "extended", and
"enhanced". While there are many kinds of
warranties, they are all based on a common
definition that implies a promise or
assurance that the product will remain
satisfactorily during its warranty period.
Webster defines “warranty” as the "written
guarantee of the integrity of a product and
of the maker's responsibility for the repair
and replacement of defective parts.”
Warranties play an
important role in providing this assurance,
in two ways. Firstly, warranty terms can
provide a promise of protection in the event
of a product failure. Secondly, prompt and
efficient warranty service can assure
customer satisfaction in the event of a
warranty claim. Successful use of both of
these requires proper warranty management.
